MYAGDI: Due to deteriorating weather and heavy snowfall, a team of security personnel has been deployed to assist tourists visiting Annapurna Base Camp (ABC).
Heavy snowfall has been ongoing since last night in Annapurna Base Camp, located in Narchyang, Annapurna Rural Municipality-4, Myagdi.
With a large influx of tourists and limited communication access, there is a risk of tourists falling ill or getting stranded.
To manage this, the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed along the ‘Maurice Herzog’ trail to provide support, in coordination with the rural municipality, according to Chief District Officer Badri Prasad Tiwari.
The team also includes Indra Singh Sherchan, known as a Himalayan rescuer, and has set out via Narchyang through Humkhola to reach the base camp.
Due to limited communication in the area, authorities are taking necessary precautions to mitigate risks posed by heavy snowfall.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) bulletin, snowfall and rain are expected in the Himalayan region until Friday, and the district administration has completely prohibited travel to Annapurna Base Camp during this period.
The rural municipality has also issued a notice urging tourists in Himalayan areas such as Annapurna Base Camp, Khopra Lekh, Mohare Danda, and Poon Hill to remain safe and exercise caution due to adverse weather conditions.
