KATHMANDU: The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has called for a provision allowing even a single tourist to trek in the restricted areas.
In a press statement today, TAAN General Secretary Sonam Gyaljen Sherpa urged the government to revise the existing rule that mandates a group of two people to trek in prohibited areas, allowing an individual to do so as well.
The TAAN also expressed gratitude to the government for setting the fee at USD 50 per person for foreign tourists trekking in the Upper Mustang area.
Furthermore, TAAN requested the government to amend the current regulation requiring trekkers to obtain a permit for Upper Dolpa similar to the system in Upper Mustang, and instead implement a system that charges fees based on the actual duration of the tourist’s stay.
