KATHMANDU: The VIP lounge at Tribhuvan International Airport, used for the arrival and departure of distinguished individuals, remains closed following the Gen Z protests.

According to airport spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, the lounge was initially closed on September 11 and has not reopened since.

All VIP travelers now stand in the same queues as ordinary passengers.

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) spokesperson Gyanendra Bhul explained that the lounge was closed at the time due to security concerns. “There is no new decision regarding reopening,” he said, “it can only reopen after new security protocols are put in place.”

The VIP lounge closure affects all high-profile travelers, including the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, ministers, MPs, and former dignitaries, who previously used the lounge as per Nepal Gazette governing VIP lounge access at international and domestic terminals.
