Bagmati River water level crosses alert mark; residents in low-lying areas warned

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Flood Forecasting Division, has reported that the water level of the Bagmati River at Gaurighat and Guhyeshwari has crossed the alert threshold.

Due to continuous rainfall starting around midnight on Tuesday, the water level surpassed the alert level at 2 AM. As a result, messages have been sent to residents of Gaurighat, Guhyeshwari, Chabahil, Nayabasti, and Jorpati via mobile alerts to stay safe, according to engineer Ashish Bhatt of the Division, speaking to RSS.

Similarly, the Rudramati (Dhobikhola) River in the Kapan area is also approaching the alert water level.

The Department has called on the public to remain cautious, as most parts of the capital have received continuous rainfall at a rate of around 25 millimeters per hour since midnight.
