KATHMANDU:A major flood surge triggered by intense rainfall in the Tibetan region entered Nepal early Tuesday morning through the Bhotekoshi River, sparking warnings across the central river corridor.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, floodwaters were recorded at around 3:30 AM in Rasuwa and reached Betrabati in Trishuli by 5:00 AM.

The water level rose by approximately 2.5 meters before gradually receding.

The department has warned that the floodwaters could travel as far downstream as the Budhigandaki confluence in Benighat, which straddles the border of Dhading and Gorkha districts.

Low-lying settlements along the Trishuli River corridor are now under heightened alert.

Officials from the Flood Forecasting Division are closely tracking water flow patterns and investigating the causes of the sudden surge.

They caution that the situation remains volatile and could worsen with further upstream rainfall.

Emergency teams have been mobilized in flood-affected zones, particularly in upstream districts like Rasuwa, where significant infrastructure damage has already been reported.
