KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a yellow alert for 23 districts across the country today, warning of a moderate risk of flooding due to rising river levels.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division, while major rivers such as Koshi, Narayani, Karnali, Mahakali, Kamala, Bagmati, Eastern and Western Rapti, Babai, and Kankai are currently flowing below the danger mark, there is a significant chance of water levels increasing throughout the day.
Districts including Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, and Nuwakot are particularly at risk, with the possibility of flash floods in smaller rivers that flow through these areas.
The department has also predicted a moderate flood risk in rivers passing through Solukhumbu, Rasuwa, Dhading, Kavrepalanchok, Makwanpur, Kaski, Gorkha, Lamjung, Baglung, Rukum East, Rukum West, Salyan, Rolpa, Surkhet, Dailekh, Kalikot, Bajhang, Dadeldhura, and Doti.
Authorities have placed these districts under a yellow alert and urged residents, especially those living near riverbanks and flood-prone zones, to stay vigilant and adopt necessary safety measures.
