KATHMANDU: The Flood Forecasting Division on Thursday, August 7, issued a cautionary notice about the possibility of floods in several parts of Nepal, urging residents to stay alert due to potential risks.
Although major rivers like Koshi, Narayani, Bagmati, Karnali, Mahakali, Kankai, Kamala, Eastern Rapti, Western Rapti, and Babai currently have water levels below the warning threshold, an increase is expected.
Significant rises in small river flows are anticipated today in districts such as Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu, Taplejung, Tehrathum, and neighboring areas. These rivers carry a moderate risk of sudden flash floods.
In addition, moderate flash flood risks are also noted for smaller rivers in the Kathmandu Valley, including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur, as well as in districts like Morang, Udayapur, Sindhuli, Makwanpur, Rasuwa, Dhading, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, and Dang.
Further districts facing similar risks from rising small rivers include Banke, Bardiya, Surkhet, Dailekh, Achham, Dadeldhura, Doti, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Jhapa, Ilam, and Panchthar.
The department advises all communities in these regions to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant against sudden flooding events.
