KATHMANDU: Heavy rainfall has been recorded in some districts of Madhesh Province on Saturday.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, several districts in Madhesh witnessed significant rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Due to a prolonged dry spell during the monsoon season, the government had declared Madhesh Province as a disaster-affected region.

As per measurements taken on Saturday morning, Tulsi Center in Dhanusha district recorded 63.8 mm of rainfall. Similarly, Hardinath in Dhanusha reported 51 mm of rainfall.

In addition, Gaur of Rautahat received 44.6 mm, while Amlekhgunj of Bara recorded 46.4 mm of rainfall.

In meteorological terms, rainfall between 50 to 100 mm in 24 hours is considered heavy, whereas rainfall between 10 to 50 mm is categorized as moderate.

Moreover, the department informed that light to moderate rainfall was recorded in other districts of Madhesh Province.

Sarlahi received 37.6 mm, while Gaushala Station in Mahottari recorded 32.4 mm of rainfall. Rainfall was comparatively lower in Siraha and Saptari districts.

The forecast predicts moderate to heavy rainfall in Madhesh on Sunday as well.

Meteorologists have indicated that the monsoon’s low-pressure line is shifting northward towards Nepal, increasing the likelihood of more rain.

Similarly, moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in many hilly regions of Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces, as well as in some parts of the Terai region.

The department has also forecasted heavy rainfall at isolated places in Koshi, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces on Saturday.
