Mugu, Nepal (March 1) – Heavy snowfall along the Karnali Highway has caused the Nagma-Gamgadhi route to be blocked, disrupting daily life in the Himalayan district of Mugu.

The section of road at Ghuchchi Lek has been impassable since Thursday due to accumulated snow, affecting both local residents and travelers. Kamal Rokaya, a transport businessman, reported that numerous freight and passenger vehicles are stranded in Ghuchchi Lek as snow buildup exceeds one foot from Ghuchchi to Bandh Khola.

Ramesh Budha, a local commuter, noted that many people have been unable to reach Gamgadhi due to the thick snow covering the road, including the areas of Bulbule and Ghuchchi Lek.

In response, Mugu’s Chief District Officer, Kalmal Prasad Pandey, said authorities have coordinated with the Road Division Office in Jumla to deploy an excavator to clear the snow. While efforts to restore access are underway, Pandey indicated that progress is slow due to ongoing poor weather conditions. The team aims to clear the route by 2 PM, but challenges remain.

Pandey urged travelers and business owners to exercise caution, remain patient, and prioritize safety during this disruption.
