Light rain predicted with impact of Westerly low pressure system

KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division has predicted light to moderate rainfall in Kathmandu Valley and in some places of Gandaki and Koshi Provinces by the coming evening.

The Division stated that cloudy weather and light rainfall has been witnessed in some of these places.

Meteorologist Bibhuti Pokhrel said the Westerly low pressure system was active in the upper atmosphere, which is likely to cause light rainfall and snowfall. “Although light rainfall is predicted by this evening, the low pressure trough would weaken gradually,” she added.

The mountainous and upper hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces are likely to have light rainfall and snowfall.

The Division further informed that mist and fog would blanket Tarai region till Thursday morning. So, alertness is urged in air and road transportations.

Snowfall in Pathibhara area

Meanwhile, snowfall has taken place in Pathibhara area in Taplejung district of Koshi Province today, according to a news report from Taplejung.

Rajendra Mahat, an employee of the Pathibhara Area Development Committee, said overcast conditions were prevailing in the region since some days. This is the fourth time this year that Pathibhara region has received snow.

Snowfall has also occurred in the northern high altitude region of the district today. It is said moderate rainfall occurred in most parts of the district today.
