Moderate flash flood risk in Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged the public to exercise caution as continuous rainfall has been recorded across several parts of the country.

According to the department, Lamjung’s Rainastar station recorded heavy rainfall of 115.6 millimeters in the past one hour, while light showers were also observed in and around Kathmandu Valley.

Other notable rainfall measurements include 17.1 millimeters in Aarughat of Gorkha, 14.2 millimeters in Syangja, 15.2 millimeters in Sindhupalchok, 16.2 millimeters in Doti, and 11.8 millimeters in Thalara of Bajhang.

The department has forecast the possibility of a sudden rise in water levels in small rivers flowing through Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

With the risk of flash floods deemed moderate, officials have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and adopt necessary safety measures.
