Residents of the lower coastal areas of the Mahakali River urged to exercise caution

KANCHANPUR: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has urged people to exercise caution in the lower coastal areas of the Mahakali River.

The department has urged residents of coastal areas to be vigilant as the water level in the Mahakali River is likely to rise as the gates of the dam of the Dhauliganga Hydropower Project in India will be opened from 12 midnight on Friday to 12 noon on Saturday.

The department has issued a notice stating that the water level of the Mahakali River is likely to rise and urged residents to be vigilant till Sunday morning.

Similarly, the Dhauliganga Power Station NHPC has also issued a notice stating that the dam gates will be opened from Friday.

NHPC stated that the dam had to be opened urgently for salt cleaning due to excessive water in the reservoir of the power station.
