KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall has caused rivers and streams across the Kathmandu Valley to swell, prompting flood warnings from authorities.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reported rising water levels in the Bagmati, Hanumante, Manohara, Dhobi Khola, Bishnumati, Nakkhu, and Balkhu rivers.

Officials warned that flooding could reach roadside areas and, in some cases, enter residential settlements.

Residents and motorists have been urged to avoid traveling along riverbanks due to the heightened risk.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is affecting large areas from eastern Gandaki Province to Koshi Province.

The department has forecasted very high risks of flooding and landslides in several districts, including Sunsari, Udaypur, Saptari, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Sindhuli, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Sindhupalchok, Kavrepalanchok, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Makwanpur, and Chitwan.

Authorities have urged local communities and travelers to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures as water levels continue to rise.
