KATHMANDU:  Thousands of trekkers in Nepal’s Himalayan districts have been affected due to continuous rainfall and snowfall that have blocked trekking routes and roads.

Authorities said both domestic and foreign tourists have been stranded, though the exact number has yet to be confirmed.

In Manang, 750 domestic and international tourists and locals were rescued from Upper Manang after heavy snowfall obstructed overland routes.

Meanwhile, in Solukhumbu, around 2,000 trekkers above Lukla, including 210 in Lobuche and 122 in Gorakshep, have been reported safe.

Snowfall has also caused difficulties for tourists in Mustang.

To minimize possible risks, trekking activities in several Himalayan regions have been temporarily suspended.

Tourists who had already reached higher areas have been asked to remain in their hotels.

Heavy snowfall since Monday night in the upper regions of Myagdi, Manang, Mustang, Solukhumbu, and Gorkha districts has blocked both trails and roads, halting trekking activities.

In Manang, transportation has come to a complete standstill since Monday, leaving visitors stranded along trekking routes.
