KATHMANDU: The weather across Nepal during Tihar, the country’s second-largest festival, is expected to remain generally fair.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), the influence of westerly winds will bring partial to moderate cloud cover over some hilly regions, while the rest of the country will experience mostly clear skies.

Although no major weather system is currently active over Nepal, the department has stated that the westerly flow could still cause minor fluctuations, leading to partly to generally cloudy conditions in certain areas.

During the festive period, isolated rainfall is likely in a few hilly areas, and light rain or snowfall could occur in some high Himalayan regions.

The DHM’s weather outlook for October 20–23 suggests mostly stable weather conditions with brief spells of cloudiness in the hills.

On Laxmi Puja (October 20), the weather is expected to be partly cloudy in the hilly areas and mostly clear in other parts of the country.

There is a chance of isolated rainfall in a few hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali Provinces.

On October 21, similar conditions will continue, with partly cloudy skies over the hills and clear weather elsewhere.

Light rainfall may occur in isolated areas of Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali regions.

On October 22, the hilly regions are likely to see partly to generally cloudy weather, while the rest of Nepal will remain mostly clear.

Light rain or snowfall is possible in some higher altitude areas of Koshi and Karnali Provinces.

Finally, on Bhai Tika (October 23), partly to generally cloudy conditions are expected over Koshi and Madhesh Provinces as well as other hilly regions.

The remaining parts of the country will experience mainly fair weather, though light rainfall in some hilly areas and light snowfall in high Himalayan regions cannot be ruled out.
