KATHMANDU: Negotiations between the agitating teachers and the Ministry of Education are set to continue today after failing to reach a consensus in Monday night’s discussion.
Both sides will resume talks at 3 PM, with efforts underway to finalize an agreement by today or tomorrow. The ministry has already informed leaders of the Teachers’ Federation about the meeting, stating that the dialogue is close to a resolution.
Following last night’s round of talks, the teachers reportedly held internal discussions and agreed to return to the negotiating table. One of the primary sticking points remains the financial implication of fulfilling the teachers’ demands, which the ministry estimates would cost over NPR 8 billion. Due to this budgetary concern, Monday’s meeting failed to produce a definitive outcome.
The teachers have been protesting since April 2 demanding changes to provisions in the new School Education Bill, better job security, and improved working conditions.
