KATHMANDU: Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City has introduced a total budget of Rs 2.64 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27.

Presenting the budget on Sunday at the 15th session of the municipal assembly, Deputy Mayor Kandakala Kumari Rana announced an allocation of Rs 1.43 billion for recurrent expenditure and Rs 1.23 billion for capital expenditure.

To finance these expenses, the sub-metropolis expects to generate Rs 551 million from internal revenue and Rs 604.5 million through revenue sharing.

The remaining financial resources will be secured through a Rs 1.06 billion financial transfer from the federal government, Rs 142.2 million from the Sudurpashchim provincial government, and Rs 423 million carried over as savings from the current fiscal year.

Reviewing the ongoing fiscal year’s performance, Deputy Mayor Rana reported that out of the total Rs 2.56 billion budget, the city received Rs 1.77 billion and successfully spent Rs 1.19 billion by mid-June.

For the upcoming fiscal year, the local government has strongly prioritized infrastructure development, education, healthcare, employment generation, and public welfare initiatives.

Key strategic plans include launching high-priority “City Pride” development projects and significantly strengthening ward-level health clinics to improve grassroots healthcare access.

Furthermore, the sub-metropolis plans to establish a dedicated ‘Project Bank’ to systematically select and implement development works based on feasibility.

To curb local unemployment, Dhangadhi will also give continuity to its flagship skill and employment fairs, aimed at equipping local youth with competitive practical skills to promote self-employment.
