KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that Nepal is currently experiencing the combined effects of westerly and local winds.
In addition, moist air flowing in from the Bay of Bengal is contributing to the prevailing weather conditions.
The Division reports that light rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is taking place in parts of the Kathmandu Valley within Bagmati Province, as well as in the hilly regions of Koshi and Gandaki Provinces.
Cloudy conditions are expected to persist across much of the country this afternoon. There is a likelihood of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in several hilly areas, with a chance of isolated showers in other locations.
Mountainous areas in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces may also see light rain or snowfall. Meanwhile, windstorms are likely in parts of the Terai, particularly in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces.
For tonight, the weather is forecast to remain partly to mostly cloudy in the hills, while the rest of the country will experience mainly clear to partly cloudy skies. One or two hilly areas may still receive light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
There is also a slight chance of light rain or snowfall in isolated mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces.
