KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has dismissed speculation that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is behind the delay in appointing the new governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).
Speaking at a policy dialogue on “Budget Priorities in the Current Economic Context” organized by the NC’s Economic Policy and Planning Department at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Tuesday, Deuba clarified that the issue lies within the central bank itself.
“We are in an alliance with KP Oli, and he has not caused any issues within the coalition,” Deuba said, adding that the delay in the governor’s appointment was not a result of political disagreement.
Deuba explained that the candidate proposed by the Congress is facing some challenges, but stressed that these are internal matters within NRB.
“PM Oli supports giving the governorship to the Congress, and there is no disagreement on that,” he added.
A former Prime Minister himself, Deuba underlined that both the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML are on the same page regarding the appointment, and that the ruling coalition remains united.
His remarks come amid growing concern over the prolonged vacancy at Nepal’s central bank and rumors of friction within the ruling alliance.
