KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has allocated Rs 6.08 billion to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the fiscal year 2082/83.

Presenting the annual budget at the joint session of the Federal Parliament on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel stated that the amount has been set aside for the development of youth and sports in the country.

As per the new budget, individuals above 16 years of age will be issued volunteer service identity cards. To promote entrepreneurship among the youth, the government will provide collateral-free loans ranging from Rs 200,000 to Rs 2 million at a concessional interest rate of 3 percent.

In the sports sector, the government plans to increase investment in infrastructure development and the promotion of professionalism. The budget includes Rs 420 million for the construction of an international stadium in Jhapa and Rs 400 million for the upgrading of the Kirtipur Cricket Ground.

A grant will also be provided for the construction of the Chitwan Cricket Stadium. Furthermore, Rs 540 million has been allocated for the successful organization of the 10th National Sports Tournament to be held in Karnali Province.

The budget also addresses anti-doping initiatives and includes incentives for athletes and coaches. Specific programs will be launched to support the development of female athletes by providing qualified trainers and proper training facilities. Moreover, funding has been ensured for the construction of regional-level stadiums such as those in Fapla and Mulpani.

Additionally, international medal-winning athletes and their children will be eligible for educational scholarships. The current allowance system for athletes and coaches will be continued to ensure sustained support and encouragement within the sector.
