KATHMANDU: Former Minister and Nepali Congress leader Mohammed Aftab Alam, recently acquitted in the 2008 Rautahat bombing case, suffered a brain hemorrhage early Friday morning and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Annapurna Neuro Hospital in Kathmandu.
According to family sources, Alam collapsed at around 7:30 AM at his residence and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
Medical personnel confirmed he is currently under intensive observation, and further updates on his condition are awaited.
He had been acquitted by the Birgunj bench of the Janakpur High Court on May 28 in a high-profile case that dates back to the eve of the first Constituent Assembly elections in 2008.
He had been accused of orchestrating a bomb-making operation in his constituency with the intention of booth capturing.
When the bomb allegedly went off prematurely, injuring several individuals, Alam was charged with murdering the survivors by allegedly disposing of them in a brick kiln furnace.
