KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office (DAO) of Kathmandu has imposed a sweeping ban on protests throughout the capital, limiting such activities only to Koteshwor, Balkhu, and Sifal.

In a notice issued on Sunday evening, the DAO announced that sit-ins, rallies, demonstrations, and other public gatherings are prohibited within the Ring Road and in public areas inside the Ring Road for a period of up to two months.

The order was enforced under Clause 6(3) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, citing concerns over disruptions to essential services, obstruction of public transportation, and threats to peace and security.

Chief District Officer Rishiram Tiwari, who signed the notice, stated that the decision followed numerous complaints from the public and concerns about risks to public property and order.

According to the directive, exceptions may be granted for events that secure prior approval from the administration.

The timing of the restriction comes as pro-monarchy demonstrations continue to take place in various parts of the capital.
