KATHMANDU: Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Minister Damodar Bhandari has claimed that China welcomed the political coalition between Nepal’s major parties—the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML—expressing hope that the alliance would bring much-needed political stability to Nepal.
According to him, this message was conveyed during a 10-day official visit to China by a delegation led by former President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
Minister Bhandari, who was part of the delegation, said China extended high-level honors to Bhandari, reflecting deep respect and a commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
Speaking to reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport upon return, he noted that Chinese officials appreciated Nepal’s internal political cooperation and saw it as a positive step toward stability.
During the visit, Bhandari held meetings with Chinese Vice President and Liu Jianchao, head of the Chinese Communist Party’s International Department.
Discussions focused on enhancing economic diplomacy, political cooperation, and cultural relations. Minister Bhandari emphasized that China valued Nepal’s political progress and acknowledged the potential for deeper ties.
Raghuvir Mahaseth, head of CPN-UML’s Foreign Department, also participated in the visit. Minister Bhandari attended meetings in an official capacity, underscoring the visit’s bipartisan and governmental significance.
“The visit helped reinforce mutual understanding and strengthened Nepal-China relations,” Minister Bhandari said.
The delegation returned to Nepal on June 2 after concluding the 10-day trip that included diplomatic meetings and cultural engagements.
