KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called for strengthening mutual unity and understanding among all communities to establish equal rights and build the nation through national solidarity.

Speaking at the 25th meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Foundation For Development of Indigenous Nationalities held today at Singha Durbar, Prime Minister Oli—who also chairs the institution—emphasized the need to uplift marginalized communities and enhance their capabilities to contribute to national prosperity.

“At a time when cultural suppression is occurring in the country, Nepal’s diverse ethnic groups seeking to preserve and value their identities is a sign of our cultural richness. We must not let our cultures die,” PM Oli said. “

When we talk about ethnic development, we are not promoting ethnic animosity or division, but rather aiming for mutual unity, understanding, and social justice. This institution should be seen not through a political or partisan lens, but as a common platform for all,” he added.

Highlighting that Nepal has undergone systemic transformation, PM Oli stated that weaknesses should be corrected based on experience and that democracy should be strengthened.

He urged that the board hold at least two meetings annually to discuss current issues and recommend solutions to the government.

The meeting discussed next fiscal year’s budget and programs, reviewed current fiscal performance, and considered the addition of more groups to the official list of indigenous nationalities. Currently, around 37 percent of Nepal’s population belongs to indigenous communities.
