KATHMANDU:  Chief Whip of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Hitraj Pandey, has demanded the formation of an investigation committee regarding the visit visa scandal.

Speaking at the meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Wednesday, Pandey called for a formal probe into the matter.

Opposition parties, including the main opposition, have been obstructing Parliament, accusing Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak of involvement in the scandal and demanding his resignation.

Pandey noted that while Parliament remains stalled, the Home Minister’s actions—specifically transferring a police officer working at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and then swiftly reversing the decision on the same day—have only deepened suspicions. He accused the government of worsening governance at a time when citizens are demanding accountability and good practices.

Chief Whip Pandey stated, “We are currently continuing with the parliamentary obstruction. In the midst of this, the Honorable Home Minister transferred a police officer to the CIAA and then reversed the decision the same day. This has created serious confusion.”

“We believe an investigation committee is necessary. This is a serious issue. This committee is about good governance, and people across the country are demanding good governance. What is the government’s position on this?” he asked.

Pandey also accused the government of lacking seriousness in concluding pending bills, alleging that there has been no urgency shown in resolving legislative matters.
