KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) boycotted today’s House of Representatives meeting, accusing the government of ignoring their demand for a high-level investigation into the ‘visit visa’ scandal.
As the session began, RSP lawmaker Sobita Gautam announced that the boycott would persist until a high-level commission or parliamentary investigation committee is formed to probe the visit visa issue.
Gautam criticized the government for forming a “makeshift administrative committee” that includes junior officials under ministries with vested interests, instead of a proper investigative body.
RPP MP Anisha Nepali accused the government of stalling the investigation by setting up a general committee instead of a high-level one.
She also expressed sorrow over the recent natural disasters across the country and urged the government to provide adequate relief to affected citizens.
After statements by MPs Gautam and Nepali, lawmakers from RSP and RPP walked out of the parliament chamber, reaffirming their joint demand for a high-level or parliamentary probe into the visit visa misuse case.
In the same session, CPN-UML lawmaker Sunita Baral raised objections to comments made by RSP regarding Prime Minister KP Oli’s visit to Spain.
