BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala advised that former presidents should avoid returning to active politics, though the constitution permits it.
Speaking at Biratnagar Airport, he said while he meets political leaders including former President Bidya Bhandari, he believes it is better if former presidents do not re-enter politics.
Koirala also criticized the President’s office for sending back the Constitutional Council bill, calling it a threat to democracy.
He expressed hope the current government lasts until 2027 but runs effectively, adding it has not been functioning well so far.
On governance, Koirala said he has spoken more than others about corruption and ethics. He emphasized the need to clearly explain the reasons for government changes to the public.
Regarding the Land Bill, Koirala wants it discussed thoroughly in parliamentary committees before a final decision.
