HETAUDA: Bagmati Province Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama has stated that there is no reason for him to resign from his post despite losing the Nepali Congress parliamentary party leadership to Indra Bahadur Baniya.
Speaking to the media after the internal party vote, Lama said he would act in accordance with the constitution. “There is no constitutional basis for me to resign. We will follow the constitution,” he said.
Lama argued that under Article 168 (2) of the Constitution, the Chief Minister does not necessarily have to be the party leader. He also pointed out that a no-confidence motion cannot be tabled against the government for two years.
Asserting that all sides want political stability, he claimed his government would not collapse anytime soon.
