TANAHUN: A passenger bus has met with a serious accident, plunging into the Marshyangdi River at Aina Paharo along the Muglin-Pokhara road section in Tanahun district.
The bus, bearing registration number Ba 2 Kha 1077, was en route from Gorkha to Narayangadh when it veered off the road and fell into the river near Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality Ward No. 2.
According to the District Police Office, Tanahun, further details regarding the incident are still awaited.
DSP Ashok Thapa, Information Officer of Tanahun Police, confirmed that teams have been dispatched for rescue and search operations, but the exact number of passengers on board at the time of the accident has yet to be confirmed.
DSP Shailendra Thapa, Assistant Spokesperson of the Armed Police Force (APF), informed that following alerts from local residents, rescue teams from the APF Disaster Management Training Center in Kurintar and No. 23 Manakamana Battalion in Tanahun have been mobilized to the accident site.
Chief District Officer of Tanahun, Ram Krishna Adhikari, stated that two individuals have been rescued so far, while efforts are ongoing to search for others who might still be trapped.
The bus was found overturned along the riverbank, and authorities are yet to ascertain the full extent of casualties and damages.
Rescue operations are being hampered by the river’s strong current, but security personnel are continuing their efforts to retrieve survivors and assess the situation.
