GAIGHAT: Continuous rainfall over the past three days has caused the water level in the Saptakoshi River to rise, putting the Belka area of Udayapur district at high risk of flooding.
Villages near the Saptakoshi River in Belka Wards 2, 3, 6, 8, and 9 are facing imminent threats of floods and inundation.
Belka Municipality’s Deputy Mayor Jira Rai stated that settlements along the Saptakoshi Riverbanks in these wards are increasingly vulnerable to river erosion.
With the river’s current swelling, there is a looming danger of riverbank collapse, prompting Udayapur Chief District Officer (CDO) Prem Prasad Luintel and a security team to conduct an on-site inspection, according to the District Administration Office.
CDO Luintel informed that the inspection was aimed at assessing the erosion-prone areas and gathering firsthand information.
Locals have been urged to remain alert and stay prepared to mitigate potential risks.
