BIRGUNJ: The Birgunj Metropolitan City has decided to extend school closures by three more days following the spread of cholera in the area.
Anand Lamichhane, chief of the city’s Education Administration Division, said the decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the mayor on Tuesday. All community and private schools within the metropolis will remain closed from August 27 to 29.
During this period, teaching and non-teaching staff will be mobilized to run awareness campaigns in affected communities about cholera prevention and control, according to the metropolis.
Schools had already been closed on Sunday and Monday as an initial precaution.
