Social networks should abide by law: NC Vice President Gurung

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Vice President Dhanraj Gurung has said the social networks should be run by adhering to Nepal’s law.

While inaugurating the special convention of the Employees Union at Food Management and Trading Company Limited here Friday, Gurung emphasized the need that social media could not act beyond legal provisions.

“When I was the Law Minister, TikTok was banned in Nepal, and after registration, it was allowed resumption,” Gurung reminded, underscoring the importance of registration. It is a global practice that the social media platforms are operated only after registration, he insisted.

The former minister further said systematic operation of the social media help secure national need and interests.
