KATHMANDU: A decisive round of talks is scheduled at Army Headquarters today to finalize the leadership of the interim government.

Youth representatives from Gen Z have already reached consensus on nominating Sushila Karki, a former chief justice, as the new prime minister, and today’s meeting is expected to formalize the decision.

The formation of an interim government process began after 30 people were killed during protests against corruption and social media restrictions, which led to the resignation of the sitting prime minister KP Sharma Oli.

The demand of the protesting youths for a fresh mandate has set the current course in motion. The Army leadership has been holding consultations with Gen Z representatives and civil society figures to ensure wider participation.

Virtual meetings of Gen Z group also reflected overwhelming support for Sushila Karki. Today’s meeting is expected to provide clarity and formal shape to the interim government structure, setting the stage for steering the country toward a fresh election and political stability.
