LAMJUNG: A landslide has blocked the Besisahar-Chame road section, which connects the districts of Lamjung and Manang.
According to the District Police Office, Lamjung, the blockage occurred this morning due to a landslide at Kharkhare Bhir in Besisahar Municipality-6, triggered by continuous rainfall since Thursday evening.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jitendra Kumar Basnet stated, “Due to the heavy rainfall, there is a constant risk of landslides in vulnerable areas. The road is currently blocked by rocks and mud cascading down from above.”
He added that dozens of vehicles traveling to the mountainous district of Manang, as well as those heading to various destinations from Manang via Besisahar, have been left stranded due to the road closure.
Traveling through this area remains highly dangerous and problematic as landslides occur repeatedly every year.
DSP Basnet explained that a major landslide that struck the area five to seven years ago was never properly managed or controlled, leading to these recurring incidents.
Although a federal government project worth Rs 194.8 million is underway to control the landslide, delays in construction have allowed the problem to persist.
The mitigation project, which was originally scheduled for completion in 2024, remains unfinished, leaving the area unprotected.
In a related update, police reported that the Besisahar-Ghalegaun road has also been blocked by a landslide.
DSP Basnet informed that the blockage on this route occurred specifically at Puma Bhir in Besisahar-6.
