KATHMANDU: The “CPN (UML) Renaissance Campaign for Transformation and Restructuring-2026” has intensified its nationwide activities, demanding radical changes in the party’s policy, ideology, and leadership.

Issuing a “special appeal” to leaders and cadres amid an ongoing election review, the campaign—backed by several party officials—warns that the UML is losing its historic glory and public trust due to shrinking internal democracy, leadership arrogance, and a lack of accountability for recent electoral defeats in the capital.

To revive the party and counter the ideological drain caused by an inactive older generation and migrating youth, the campaign has proposed a set of mandatory reforms.

These include an immediate leadership overhaul, a strict two-term limit for any position, a generational shift ensuring at least 40% youth representation in committees, direct election of leaders by all members, minimum bachelor’s degree requirements for policy-making roles, and financial transparency.

Cautioning current leaders that they must choose between being “creators of history” or “attendees of the movement’s funeral,” the campaign urges cadres across all levels to speak up and support the party’s complete transformation.
