KATHMANDU: Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was escorted to the Nepal Army Headquarters in Bhadrakali today under tight security provided by the army.

Controversial royalist Durga Prasai also arrived at the military headquarters with army protection. Their arrivals sparked large gatherings of Gen-Z protesters and journalists outside the gates.

On Wednesday, a five-hour virtual meeting of Gen-Z leaders had decided to nominate Karki as the head of the interim government, intensifying political tensions in the capital.

Protests were also held in support of Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah and Dharan Mayor Harka Sampang.

Mayor Shah has already expressed his backing for Karki, while the crowd outside the military base continued to raise loud slogans in his favor.

A minor scuffle broke out between Indian media personnel and Nepali journalists covering the event. As tensions escalated, the army began using loudspeakers to disperse the crowd.
