Three Ministers Sworn In by President Paudel

Three newly appointed ministers took their oaths on Monday. President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath in the presence of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. The ministers sworn in are Rameshwar Khanal as Finance Minister, Kulman Ghising as Minister for Energy, Physical Infrastructure, and Urban Development, and Om Prakash Aryal as Home and Law Minister.  The ceremony was held outside the damaged office building, with temporary arrangements including a canopy.

Parliament Secretariat Requests Return of Looted Items

The Federal Parliament Secretariat has urged the return of items looted from the Parliament building during the Gen-Z youth protest on September 9. On Monday, the Internal Service and Planning Division of the Secretariat issued a notice stating that printers, scanners, cameras, televisions, monitors, microphones, mixers, speakers, photocopy machines, and other electronic equipment were taken by unauthorized individuals. The Secretariat has requested the return of these items.

Narayangadh–Muglin Road Reopens for Two-Way Traffic

The Narayangadh–Muglin road, which had been operating one-way due to a landslide, has reopened for two-way traffic. According to the Road Division Office, Bharatpur, the road near Tuinkhola in Ichchhakamana-5 of Chitwan was restricted to one-way movement from 9:00 am today after a landslide. With the use of machinery from the Road Division Office, the debris was cleared, and the road was reopened for two-way traffic at 11:00 am, road supervisor Ishwar Kshhetri confirmed. The Road Division Office, Bharatpur, has urged travelers to proceed with caution.

We’ll Support Government, Ensure Timely Elections: Shankar Pokharel

Kathmandu: Shankar Pokharel, General Secretary of CPN-UML, visited the party office for the first time following the destruction caused during the Gen Z protests last Monday and Tuesday. On Monday afternoon, he arrived at the party office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, appealing to party workers to begin the reconstruction of offices damaged across the country. After inspecting the central office damaged during the protests, General Secretary Pokharel instructed party members to coordinate with government authorities and contribute to rebuilding public structures as well.

Sher Bahadur Deuba Recovering After Attack During Gen Z Protests

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who was beaten at his residence in Budhanilkantha during the Gen Z protests on September 9, is reportedly on the path to recovery. Congress leaders have been regularly updated on Deuba’s health condition. A press release issued after a meeting of the Central Working Committee, chaired by Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka last Friday, did not mention the health condition of President Deuba and his wife Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, both of whom were attacked by Gen Z protesters.

Postmortems Completed for 30 Gen Z Protest Victims

Postmortems have been completed for 30 individuals who lost their lives during the Gen Z protests. Among them, families have received the bodies of 27 victims. At the Forensic Department of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, 46 bodies of those who died during the protests on September 8–9 are currently held for postmortem. According to police data, a total of 72 people have died across the country during the protests. Dr. Gopal Chaudhary, head of the Forensic Department, stated that postmortems for 16 bodies are still pending. Among these, seven bodies are completely charred.

109 Prisoners Arrested After Fleeing Tanahun Jail

Out of 327 prisoners who escaped from Tanahun Jail on the night of September 9 under the pretext of the Gen Z protests, 109 have been arrested so far, the District Police Office, Tanahun, reported. Among those arrested, there are 68 men, 9 women, and 32 male inmates, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashok Thapa of the Tanahun District Police Office. The police have urged the remaining prisoners who fled during the Gen-Z protests to come forward and surrender.

Total Dengue Infections Reach 4,353 Across Nepal

In the past week, 239 new cases of dengue have been recorded across the country, bringing the total number of infections in Nepal to 4,353. According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), 33 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours alone. Province-wise data shows that Gandaki has the highest number of cases with 1,149 infections, followed by Bagmati with 936, Lumbini with 780, Koshi with 681, Sudurpaschim with 502, Karnali with 207, and Madhesh Province with 88 cases.

NHRC Issues 9-Point Appeal Amid New Government Formation

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a nine-point appeal to all relevant stakeholders in the current context following the formation of a new government under the backdrop of the Gen Z protests. The Commission urged special attention to postmortems, cremations, and relief for families of those who died during the protests. It also called for all future actions to be carried out with the active participation of stakeholders, keeping the country, citizens, democracy, human rights, and rule of law at the center.

Heavy Rain Disrupts Life in Bhairahawa and Surrounding Areas

Continuous heavy rainfall since last night has disrupted daily life in Bhairahawa and nearby areas. Flooding in various parts of the city has made commuting difficult for local residents. Floodwaters have accumulated particularly in Khajahana of Ward No. 3 of Siddharthanagar Municipality, Bhaiya Tol of Ward No. 6, and the Bank Road area. Streets filled with water have caused problems for both pedestrians and vehicles. Homes and shops in these areas have also been inundated.

‘Abhimanyu: Chapter 1’ to Release on Phulpati

The Nepali film Abhimanyu: Chapter 1 will be released on Phulpati, September 29. Production company Seven Seas Nepal announced the new release date through a press statement. The film was earlier scheduled for release on September 12, but the Gen-Z protests forced a postponement. “Although we had finalized the earlier date, we postponed the release in view of the country’s difficult situation. Now, taking the profound changes in the country positively, we are announcing a new date to keep our film industry dynamic and active,” Seven Seas said in the statement.

Cinema Halls Reopens from Monday After Gen-Z Protests

Cinema halls across Nepal, which had remained closed due to the Gen-Z protests, reopene from Monday. The Nepal Film Association made the decision during its meeting on Sunday. Association president Narendra Maharjan said that films scheduled before the closure will be released first.

‘Haribahadurko Jutta’ to Hit Screens on Phulpati

The film Haribahadurko Jutta will also be released on Phulpati. With cinemas reopening from Monday, the producers confirmed the film’s new release date. Producer Saroj Oli said: “Our preparations for a Phulpati release remain unchanged. We have not stopped the promotion of the film.” Directed by Dipendra K. Khanal, the film stars Hari Bansha Acharya, Swastima Khadka, Prakash Saput, Divya Dev, Harihar Sharma, Rajaram Paudel, Dinesh Kafle, and Kamalmani Nepal. Actor Deepak Raj Giri has remarked that Nepalis are “dangerous to themselves.” He expressed his views in a social media post. “Even while fires were raging all around, pictures of Nepalis waving warmly at tourists went viral worldwide,” he wrote. “This shows that while we are good for others, we are dangerous for ourselves.”

CAN Announces 16-Member Squad Against West Indies

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced a 16-member Nepali cricket team for the upcoming Unity NEP-WI Cup. Adil Alam, who performed well against Assam with Nepal ‘A’ team, makes a return to the senior national squad after over two years of suspension. Lalitpur City FC Defender Pawan Shahi Injured by Police Fire During Gen Z Protests

During the Gen Z protests, Nepal Super League (NSL) champion Lalitpur City FC defender Pawan Shahi was injured by police gunfire in Baneshwar. Originally from Manma, Kalikot, Shahi sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and arm. He is currently receiving treatment at a trauma center in Kathmandu. Pawan Shahi has also played in various competitions for Brigade Boys Club and NRT Club, in addition to Lalitpur City FC.

25 Palestinians Killed in Israeli Attacks on Gaza

Six-year-old twins among 25 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza City this morning. Qatar hosts leaders of the Arab and Muslim world in Doha today to issue a joint response to Israel’s attack on the capital last week. At least 16 buildings were destroyed by Israeli forces in Gaza City yesterday. Their attacks killed 53 Palestinians. Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 64,871 people and wounded 164,610 since October 2023. Thousands more are believed to be under the rubble.

Rising Seas Will Threaten 1.5 Million Australians By 2050

One and a half million Australians living in coastal areas are at risk from rising sea levels by 2050, a landmark climate report has warned. Australia’s first National Climate Risk Assessment predicted more frequent and severe climate hazards like floods, cyclones, heatwaves, droughts and bushfires. “Australians are already living with the consequences of climate change today,” Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen said, “but it’s clear every degree of warming we prevent now will help future generations avoid the worst impacts in years to come.”

South Korea to Probe Potential Human Rights Abuses in US Raid

The South Korean government says it is investigating potential human rights violations during the raid and detention of Korean workers by US authorities. South Korea has expressed “strong regret” to the US and has officially asked that its citizens’ rights and interests are not infringed during law enforcement proceedings, said a presidential spokesperson on Monday. More than 300 South Korean workers returned home on Friday after being held for a week following a raid at an electric vehicle battery plant in the US state of Georgia.
