KATHMANDU: The government has begun efforts to allow Nepali citizens living abroad to vote in the upcoming House of Representatives elections on March 5, 2026.
Home and Law Minister Om Prakash Aryal said the Supreme Court’s order on overseas voting must be implemented, at least under the proportional representation system.
“Nepalis abroad must be able to vote. We have to make this possible,” he said.
Aryal discussed the issue with Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, aiming to remove legal and technical obstacles.
Voting arrangements will be coordinated through Nepali embassies wherever feasible.
Aryal emphasized that the government’s effort is to include as many Nepalis abroad as possible, ensuring their participation in the democratic process.
