KATHMANDU: Following the implementation of the newly approved Government of Nepal Allocation of Business Rules, 2026, the government has downsized the number of federal ministries from 22 to 18 and reshuffled the responsibilities of 23 secretaries.

Under this structural overhaul, ministries that previously operated with two secretary positions have been scaled back to just one.

As part of the adjustment, six secretaries have been transferred to new roles: Bhupal Baral to Gandaki Province, Chandrakala Paudel to the Office of the Vice President, Pramila Devi Bajracharya to the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dina Nath Mishra to the National Vigilance Center, Chiranjibi Chataut to the Office of the Nepal Trust, and Sarju Kumar Baidya to the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat.

Furthermore, six secretaries—Lok Nath Paudel, Krishna Hari Pushkar, Hari Prasad Mainali, Govinda Prasad Sharma, Dilli Ram Sharma, and the currently suspended Danduraj Ghimire—have been placed in the additional pool.

Among them, Govinda Prasad Sharma has been given a special assignment to coordinate operations at Tribhuvan International Airport, while the Office of the Prime Minister prepares to appoint another pool secretary to oversee national IT coordination.
