KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case at the Special Court in Kathmandu against seven individuals, including Birgunj Mayor Rajesh Man Singh, over the fraudulent issuance of birth and citizenship certificates.
The defendants are accused of fabricating details and tampering with documents in Ward No. 3 of Birgunj to falsely register another person’s daughter as the Mayor’s own child.
The charge sheet also names then-Ward Secretary Bhikhari Raya, then-Acting Ward Chairperson Tufail Akhtar Thakurai, and former Parsa Administrative Officer Shad Kumar Pokharel.
Additionally, Home Ministry probe committee officials Pushkar Rana and Parshu Ram Pokharel face charges for covering up the fraud with a false report, while Rita Bhattarai of Sindhupalchok is charged as an accomplice alongside Mayor Singh.
The CIAA is seeking imprisonment and fines for all involved under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002, as the case moves to a Special Court hearing.
