KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives meeting was adjourned on Monday following continuous protests by opposition parties over a recent statement made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
As soon as Monday’s session commenced, opposition lawmakers stood up from their seats to register their protest. They have demanded that Prime Minister Shah correct his controversial statement.
The opposition’s outrage stems from a recent question-and-answer session in the House, during which Prime Minister Shah remarked that Nepal, too, had encroached upon Indian territory.
Following immediate disruption as the house met today, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal allocated time for the opposition lawmakers to speak. During their time, opposition MPs insisted that the Prime Minister must rectify his remarks and demanded that the statement be expunged from the parliamentary records.
As the opposition benches persisted with their protest, Speaker Aryal adjourned the session of the House of Representatives for 15 minutes in an attempt to ease the standoff.
