KATHMANDU: The Kodari Highway, Nepal’s main trade route linking the Tatopani border with China, has been blocked once again after heavy overnight rainfall triggered a landslide in Sindhupalchok district.
The Department of Roads said clearance work is underway and that traffic could resume within few hour if conditions remain stable.
Officials noted that the landslide did not occur at the sites cleared earlier this week. On Monday, road crews had reopened the highway after removing debris from five major blockages in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality–2, including Kodari and Ikule. That clearance briefly restored the flow of vehicles along the vital corridor.
The repeated closures underscore the vulnerability of Nepal’s mountain highways during the monsoon season, disrupting both local movement and cross-border trade with China.
