KATHMANDU: In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, the government has moved three key oversight bodies away from the Prime Minister’s Office, placing them directly under line ministries.
Communications and Information Technology Minister Jagdish Kharel announced Thursday that the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) and the Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DMLI) will now operate under the Ministry of Finance.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Department (NID), the country’s primary intelligence agency, has been shifted to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Until now, all three agencies were under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Officials say the restructuring is aimed at clarifying chains of command and strengthening ministerial accountability in economic and security oversight.
