KATHMANDU: Dissolved House of Representatives Speaker Devraj Ghimire on Monday said the grievances raised by the Gen-Z protests can only be resolved through the rule of law and constitutional processes.
Issuing his Dashain greetings for 2082, Ghimire expressed hope that the festival would inspire Nepalis to transform the unrest sparked by youth-led protests into lasting peace. He paid tribute to citizens who lost their lives during the uprising and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. He also stressed that rebuilding damaged public and private infrastructure would require joint efforts from both the state and society.
Ghimire noted that the concerns raised by young protesters centered on good governance and transparency, reminding the public that the constitution is a “living, amendable document.” “Their demands can be addressed within the framework of rule of law and the constitution,” he said.
The Speaker emphasized that sustainable solutions could only be found through democratic practice and parliamentary supremacy — the very path, he said, that would guide the country out of darkness toward light.
He also called Dashain a festival of reconciliation, unity, and harmony. “What the generations need is not conflict, but cooperation and solidarity,” he wrote, adding that combining the wisdom of elders with the energy of youth was essential to building a new Nepal. The festival, he said, should inspire all Nepalis to embrace tolerance, mutual goodwill, and collective progress.
