Two dead in Panchthar landslide

PHIDIM: Two people have died and three others were injured after continuous rainfall triggered landslides and floods in Panchthar district.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as 79-year-old Kanchhi Maya Sherma of Tumwewa Rural Municipality-4, and 17-year-old Misek Nembang of Phalgunanda Rural Municipality-3.

Sherma was buried under a landslide that struck her house, while Nembang was swept away by the Nibu Khola.

The injured include 37-year-old Manmaya Karki of Miklajung Rural Municipality-3 Solumba, 66-year-old Dhan Bahadur Chemjong of Phalgunanda-5 Jaubari, and 72-year-old Sukmaya Angdambe of Phalgunanda-1, Alubari.

Authorities have warned of further risks as rainfall continues in the district.

Police and local residents are engaged in rescue and security operations.
