KATHMANDU: On the first trading day of the week, Sunday, Nepal’s stock market witnessed a landslide drop. The NEPSE index fell by 78.83 points, settling at 2,503.35.
Trading on NEPSE on Sunday totaled RS 670.72 billion. In comparison, the previous trading day on Thursday recorded RS 5.27 billion in turnover. A total of 324 companies were traded on NEPSE, with 67,202 transactions involving 1,436,468 shares.
All sectoral indices closed in the red, with the Hotel and Tourism sector falling the most at 4.84 percent, followed by the ‘Other’ sector, which dropped 4.79 percent.
Among individual stocks, Nepal Microinsurance Company Limited saw the highest increase of 6.01 percent in its share price. Meanwhile, Butwal Power Company Limited recorded the largest decline, down 9.27 percent.
The most actively traded stock was Nepal Reinsurance Company, with a turnover of RS 387.47 million. Union Hydropower Limited saw 726,673 shares traded.
