RAUTAHAT: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Sunday filed a corruption case at the Special Court in Kathmandu against former Acting Chief Administrative Officer Pralab Kayastha, accountant Ram Balam Prasad Yadav, and Rautahat Advertising Pvt. Ltd. director Ajit Kumar Karn over school building contracts in Madhav Narayan Municipality, Rautahat.

The CIAA found that legal notices for the contract, which should have been published in a national daily, were hidden.

The officials allegedly printed limited copies resembling the national daily printed post and submitted false documents to receive Rs 257,971.

Press Council Nepal confirmed no such notices were officially published.

Under the charges, Kayastha and Yadav face fines and imprisonment under Section 8(10)(g) of the Corruption Prevention Act, (2002), while Karn faces penalties and recovery of the misappropriated funds under Section 22.

CIAA spokesperson Rajendra Kumar Paudel called the act a “serious irregularity” and pledged zero tolerance, adding that monitoring of public contract procedures will be strengthened.
