KATHMANDU: Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister Kulman Ghising left for India on Monday to participate in the 8th Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
He departed for New Delhi in the afternoon aboard a Nepal Airlines flight. The summit, scheduled from 27-30 October in New Delhi, will host energy ministers and representatives from over 40 countries.
At the high-level meeting, discussions will focus on promoting solar energy, expanding sustainable energy supply, mitigating climate change, and exploring avenues for international cooperation.
Minister Ghising will represent Nepal and deliver remarks highlighting the country’s commitment to expanding solar energy utilization and enhancing access to clean energy through international collaboration.
His personal secretariat stated that he will also address sessions on regional and global interconnectivity for large-scale clean energy transformation.
The ISA was established following the Paris Declaration of November 2015, in which member nations agreed to jointly address challenges related to increasing solar energy adoption.
The alliance aims to mobilize over $100 billion in investment by 2030 and guide technology pathways for future applications.
After Nepal’s Parliament ratified the ISA framework agreement, the country joined as the 101st member nation in September 2023.
Minister Ghising is scheduled to return to Nepal on Wednesday.
