KATHMANDU: In a bid to make burn treatment easily accessible and affordable, the government has launched a nationwide expansion of burn care services across federal and provincial hospitals.

Aligned with the government’s 100-day commitment plan, specialized burn care units and wards have been brought into operation across 14 federal and four provincial hospitals.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, extensive human resource training has been completed to support this rollout. A total of 109 healthcare workers have received basic burn care training, while 217 others have been equipped with specialized burn treatment skills. This initiative aims to ensure citizens can access immediate, life-saving preliminary burn treatment at their nearest regional facilities.

The Ministry emphasized that establishing dedicated units within existing well-equipped, multi-specialty hospitals is far more effective than building standalone burn hospitals. This strategy ensures that burn victims have immediate access to plastic surgery and other complex, critical care services often required alongside primary burn treatment.

To date, dedicated burn care wards have been successfully established at major medical institutions across the country, including Kanti Children’s Hospital, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Koshi Hospital, Narayani Hospital, Bharatpur Hospital, Dadeldhura Hospital, and Bheri Hospital.

This critical service expansion also extends to the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) – Bir Hospital, B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS), Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences (PoAHS), and Rapti Academy of Health Sciences (RAHS), ensuring wide geographic coverage for specialized emergency treatment.
