KATHMANDU: A group that collected signatures from 54% of the general convention delegates demanding a special general convention of the Nepali Congress has met with party leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala.
After submitting the signatures amid ongoing debates in the party’s central committee, the group, led by Gururaj Ghimire, requested a schedule for either the 15th general convention within the current four-year term or an alternative special convention, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) reported.
During the discussion, leader Koirala stated that conducting central committee elections with timely policy formulation through either a regular or special convention is the only viable path.
He also expressed his commitment to take initiatives for a special convention if a regular convention is not held, according to Nepali Congress leader Manojmani Acharya.
Koirala was also alerted that even if 54% of delegates submit signatures according to the party statute, holding a convention outside the statutory framework could be self-defeating, emphasizing the need to strictly follow the party constitution.
